AI dominates the headlines these days, rushing towards us like an unstoppable force! History shows us that this new technology will reshape the world, much like the iPhone and Instagram did. Opinions are divided, but as a creative, the potential for rapid innovation is utterly captivating. Finally, I had a weekend free to dive into exploring and learning more about it, from AI agents to video applications.
Inspired by Marsel and fueled by curiosity, I selected six of my infrared elephant images, entered a few commands, and in less than 30 seconds, AI generated a short video. It’s insane. The grasses became a little feathery, it has trouble with the trunks, and in the final shot, they almost looked like worms… HAHA! But honestly, it left me nearly speechless.
I will render this from scratch again in 6 months and see what happens.
I have been creative since I was a child. The incredible tools emerging at our fingertips are truly exciting—but it’s also a bit unsettling to see how quickly technology is poised to reshape our world once again.
Your images are stunning! The AI on the trunks was off and a giveaway that it wasn’t real. Yes, they looked like worms. I hate to see what AI is doing on images and videos.
Hi Piper!
Your images are beautiful as usual, and you have a particular style. I think this is what makes the photographer. So why use AI?
Perhaps to edit out a background, object, etc. but when actually using AI to create, augment, the image itself it is no longer your image.
I think this is where I would draw the line.
Hope all is well!
I for one am not embracing AI for my photography. I don’t mind things like creating a quick mask for selective editing, but beyond that, I feel like it will cheapen our craft. The arts in general stand to loose a lot as it will become common to sideline creatives for AI alternatives.
I think of a zoom meeting I attended where a well known photographer was championing AI in his making an add for the Super Bowl, saying how he could make it in minutes without traveling to location. I wondered how long before his clients figure out that having an AI specialist in house would cost him his potential jobs. This is the economic cost, but I also strongly feel that art should be more organic than giving prompts to create it using real artists work.
