Touching base

I just wanted to touch base as I sit in Washington on my way back to Africa; Ethiopia this time. Two weeks ago I returned form one of the most exciting safari’s to date. The group had incredible luck and my guides were very well informed and connected with colleagues all over the Mara. This was a huge advantage. I will get a trip report up along with the much anticipated blog about my Nikon vs Canon experience when I return home the first week of Oct. One of the real highlights of the safari was the major crossings, which was the purpose of this Migration Safari; 10 days in the Mara at three different locations. We had a major crossing on our first morning. Halfway through the safari we moved to the other side of the Mara River in hopes to get a crossing coming toward us. We were only staying for 2 nights and doing three game drives. Well, Luck stayed with us and we had a crossing on all three game drives!

One thing that was consistent in our conversation was how hard is was to really capture the experience of these great herds storming across the river. The sounds, the dust, the intensity, and drama was so powerful it was almost impossible to capture the emotions we felt while witnessing this in person. I am still in awe of some of the crossings we experienced and wanted to share a few images with you before dropping into Omo Valley.

Wonderful images Piper. I can see and feel the power of these crossings. I too wish I’d been there. I hope they are still crossing when I’m there this week and next. Good fortune on your Etheopian safari.

AMAZING!!!!! These pictures are phenomenal. I hope someday I can have this kind of experience. Until then, I will have to live vicariously through you. Keep up the great work!
