5 LOCATIONS! 13 DAYS
Africa is a tapestry of ancient cultures, exotic wildlife, dramatic ecosystems, and stunning landscapes, all of which are mesmerizing for the eyes, mind, and soul. Nowhere else on the entire continent of Africa can I offer such a vast mix of exotic wildlife and tribes in the same itinerary! You will come home with more than just an amazing, diverse portfolio of exceptional images from one African safari; you will have lived through an experience so remarkable that you will talk about it for decades!
LAKIPIA WILDERNESS
The Laikipia Wilderness, set in Northern Kenya, is best known as the home of Giza, the world-famous black leopard whose striking beauty has captured global attention. This breathtaking reserve is a haven for exotic wildlife, hosting iconic species of the north such as Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, oryx, gerenuk, vulturine guinea fowl, and thriving packs of wild dogs. With its stunning landscapes and unique biodiversity, Laikipia Wilderness blends rare animal encounters with the awe-inspiring beauty of untamed Africa. We have off-road access for better positioning.
PRIVATE RHINO SANCTUARY
Set between Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Mountains, this internationally acclaimed private reserve is Kenya’s most successful rhino breeding sanctuary. Sightings of dozens of rhinos in a single game drive are common, often grazing on open plains with clean mountain and sky backdrops.
Unlike most areas, rhinos here retain their full horns, offering the rare opportunity to create truly meaningful, legacy images. The reserve also supports large populations of white and black rhino, along with lion, cheetah, leopard, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, oryx, and antelope, set within beautiful yellow acacia forest and riverine habitat.
SAMBURU
Crossing the equator opens a magical new world! Filled with large, iconic umbrella acacia trees in a stunning arid environment on rich, red African soil, Samburu Reserve evokes the traditional vision of “I Dream of Africa.” As the wind blows through the stunning doom palms, one knows they are in a magical place. Roaming through this primal land and unique to this reserve are the maneless lions, rare and exotic Grevy’s Zebras, red soil–stained red elephants, reticulated giraffes, Oryx, and Somali ostrich. In the stillness of what seems like an empty land, one might hear the rustle of the brush as a cheetah or leopard makes itself or herself known. In stark contrast to this dry, neutral landscape, wander the vivid, semi-nomadic, colorful Samburu tribe.
Originally part of the Maasai tribe on the Nile River, the Samburu split off when the Maasai journeyed south to Tanzania. The Samburu, meaning “butterfly people,” not only left their tribe but also enhanced their traditional dress with vibrant colors and intricate beadwork, reflecting their rich heritage. Known for their traditional dances, storytelling, and elaborate ceremonies, the Samburu preserve their cultural legacy and vital community life.
MATHEWS RANGE
Africa’s most unique locations are little-known and remote; we will be venturing into a hidden gem where the Samburu and Rendile live traditionally. My long-standing relationships with the communities provide an intimate glimpse into this fascinating other world. Immersing yourself in their environment fosters a more profound connection, creating more powerful photographic opportunities. This journey offers stunning visuals and a profound connection to the resilient spirit of these communities, making it a life-changing experience.
PRIVATE AMBOSELI
A Maasai name meaning “salty dust,” Amboseli is the most incredible place to photograph some of the last, biggest iconic tuskers remaining in Africa. This enchanting African jewel, nestled at the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, offers a sensory feast that stirs the soul. Picture yourself traversing the open plains beside vast herds of elephants, zebras, and giraffes as they roam gracefully across the dusty lakebed, framed by Africa’s tallest mountain and the striking Maasai Tribe.
Within the exclusive Kitirua Conservancy, a private sanctuary bordering Amboseli National Park, you will have off-road access and very low vehicle density. You will still have full access to the national reserve, which shares an invisible border, but there will be no strict gate hours.
