Namibia Adventure Photo Safari

April 2014

This past May 2013, I visited Namibia to scout the more remote, wild, and less visited Northern area; Koakaland and Daramaland. Tradition, culture and wildlife are vanishing at alarming rates, putting greater importance on experiencing and photographing them before they are gone. I teamed up with Piers L’Estrange, a very passionate, talented photographer, filmmaker and Namibian guide who I will team up with again for the Namibia adventure photo Safari.

Together with Piper and Heath, Namibian experts, we are currently building an itinerary offering extraordinary photographic opportunities, unique to the wilds of Namibia, and the true spirit of its people; an experience of a lifetime.

Highlights

Bushmen  – A century ago there were thousands of clans throughout the desert, now there are only a few dozen remaining. Their unique traditions and hunting skills maybe lost in the next generation. We will learn about and photograph their hunting skills and unique trans-dancing. We will have the opportunity to photograph them at night, under the dramatic star filled sky.

Himba– Our experience is focused to the point where we will forego luxury and go boldly where others dare not because they do not have the experience to find the way. However, we will be putting up a proper mobile tented camp and food will probably be some of the best on the trip. This is the best way to experience the Himba, unspoiled, and without other tourist around.

Etosha – we will be staying in an area of Etosha where we are working hard to have special access to drive in the evening.  We will do our morning game drive and hope to start our afternoon game drive just before the golden light, continuing  to follow the animals after sundown when they are the most active.

Desert elephants, Rhino, wildlifeWe will be in one of the most pristine wild places in Northern Nambia where the animals still roam completely free amongst the dramatic landscape. No fences, no reserves. We will work hard to track the Desert elephant and Rhino unique only to this place. Since they run completely wild, there is no guarantee we will find them, but if we do, you will have images very few others have.

Luxury! After our incredible experience with the Himba,  we will stay at one of the most luxurious accommodations in the north.

2 Leaders  – Piers has been guiding in Namiba for 20 years. He is a very passionate photographer and filmmaker. If you are shooting video or dabbling in it, piers will be a great asset to you. He is also very technical and has knowlege on just about every gadget in the market. Piper’s photography has been focused in Africa for the past decade and she specializes in photographing the tribes.

Small group  – One of the keys to creating compelling imagry of indigeous cultures is visiting a village with a small group. This is a much better experience for you and less intrusive on the incredible people we will meet and photograph. In a big group it is challenging to work around so many other photographers. It also takes away from the intimate experience of the people that is key in connecting with your subject and capturing compelling imagery.

Extension to the South –  We will be offing an extension to the South so you can also experience and photographic the iconic spots, such as the red sand dunes in Sossuvlei, and the ghost town in Kolmanskop.

An itinerary like this is rarely offered and we will be limiting this trip to only 8-10 participants. If you are interested in being part of this extraordinary experience, please email me immediately to be put on the first contact list.
